I conduct research in insurance economics, risk management, and financial regulation. I have particular interests in capital allocation methodology and market behavior under financial frictions, with a focus on the institutional context of the insurance industry. I have previously served as an economist in the Capital Markets Function of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and as a commercial lines actuary at Fireman's Fund Insurance Companies. I am a past President of the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA) and of the Risk Theory Society.
In addition to my academic work, I provide consulting and expert testimony for insurance litigation and rate proceedings.

Expert Testimony
As with my research, a good portion of my consulting work focuses on insurance pricing, specifically the margin for profit included in the rate. Calculating this margin requires understanding and estimating the cost of capital, the appropriate allocation of capital for the underlying risk, projections of investment income, and various other quantities. I help clients build and implement profit models. Provided below are publicly available examples of my expert testimony in support of profit models.
